What are picrews? Picrews are drawings of characters made by compiling different presents together to create a unique image. Many of the programs that make these images are hosted on the site Picrew, hence the name. These are useful for figuring out what a character looks like in a guided way by choosing from a set list of options, and are a good alternative to AI generated art. For best use, use a picrew for the base and edit afterwards in a digital art program.
This list is mostly for my own reference, but if anybody else finds them helpful, that's great too.
Sangled- Round faces with large eyes, animeish style
- Soft, cute
- Clothing suitable for generic modern casual
- Art style is very readable at small image sizes
- People with Sangled profile pictures on the internet have a certain reputation, but that doesn't matter for making characters with it
Poicon Maker- Best for thin women
- Limited face shape selection, only one body type
- Apparently very lesbiancore
Baydew's Avatar Maker V2- Low, sloped shoulders
- Decent fantasy options
- Lack of good textured hairstyles
- Clothing is a mix of fantasy and not
Magnus Archives Fear Avatar- Different body sizes
- Not great for Asian characters
- Clothing is modern but very specific
- Messed up magical effects
Black Centered Picrew- Best for black characters, as seen in the name
- Many curly hair options
- Body type selections of thin and large
- Many clothing options, modern
PotatoLord's Persona Creator- Best for thin, masc people
- One face shape and body type
- There are long haired options, but I just don't like them
- Clothing works for generic modern
- Seems to be being updated over time?
League of Legends Avatar Creator- Many face shape and body options
- Has a painterly style similar to Arcane, style feels very specific and exaggerates features in a way that makes it hard to find exact fits despite the number of options
- Clothing and accessories are very fantasy
- Not hosted on Picrew
Toon Me! Thin body | Large body- Reclining backwards pose
- Has one face shape and two body options
- Pose of someone sitting back looking at the viewer
- Wide variety of hairstyles
- Wide variety of modern clothing
- Has fantasy horn, tail, and ear options
Plant's OC Creator- Male and female
- Wide variety of body types
- Clothing is fitted both for AFAB and AMAB body types
- Has fantasy ear options
おさむメーカー (Unknown Japanese name)- Pretty anime style
- Good for Asian faces
- Clothing runs more femme or androgynous, very little color customization allowed
- Limited fantasy ears and wing options
